The Clemson University School of Architecture (SoA) is searching for the Thompson E. Penney and Gretchen M. Penney Distinguished Professorship in Architecture in Evidence-Based Design (EBD). The position will have an academic appointment as a tenured Associate Professor or tenured Professor of Architecture, based on qualifications.
While the primary role is to conduct high-level research, the successful candidate will also integrate their research agenda within the School, including advising PhD students. Their work will impact the practice of architecture and enhance design and professional practice knowledge.
Situated within a region experiencing rapid growth in applied research, including AEC industry advancements, Clemson University is a public, Carnegie R-1 research institution committed to doubling its research expenditures by 2035. The position will collaborate with faculty, students, industry partners, and research centers/institutes, including those within the SoA, to foster a thriving built environment research hub.
Evidence-Based Design is the process of executing research-informed building design decisions to improve outcomes. A successful applicant will have an established research agenda in architecture at the building and occupant scales (https://www.aia.org/pages/5626-architectural-research) , which may include building design and performance; sustainability; technology and processes; design data analytics; innovative materials; and/or human well-being.
Minimum requirements:
1) PhD in a relevant field
2) Established record of forming and leading multidisciplinary research teams
3) Successful record of pursuing and receiving research funding
The candidate must demonstrate a record of peer-reviewed publications and scholarly work commensurate with the rank of tenured associate or full professor. Professional licensure in architecture is preferred.
