Illinois Institute of Technology

The Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture welcomes applications for its Jeanne and John Rowe Fellowship.

The Rowe Fellowship supports early-career design educators with a two-year, visiting faculty appointment in the IIT College of Architecture, including funding for research. Fellows are expected to teach design studios, in addition to courses that support their area of interest, and to formally share their research/project with the IIT community via public lecture(s), exhibition(s), and/or event(s).

Rowe Fellows are visionary and pragmatic, with a dynamic outlook on emerging ideas for the built environment. Their research projects are design-related and structured to educate and inspire the next generation of architects and landscape architects. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to contribute to the intellectual life of a studio-focused architecture school and its activities.

Located in Mies van der Rohe’s landmark Crown Hall, the IIT College of Architecture celebrates its unique history as an incubator of Modernism in America, while focusing on the future of design, practice, and scholarship in an interconnected and urbanized world. Committed to an equitable and inclusive educational environment for all, our multiple degree programs, from B.Arch to PhD, include 700+ students from 50 states and 35 countries. The City of Chicago, shaped by generations of our faculty and alumni, provides unparalleled resources for architectural research and collaboration in contemporary creative practice.

Applicants should submit a single PDF, of not more than 20 MB, containing:

  • One-page letter of interest
  • One-page design-related project/research proposal
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Portfolio of relevant work (design and teaching)

In an effort to reduce bias in our hiring practices, professional references and recommendation letters are not required at this time.

The PDF filename format should be Lastname_Firstname, and should be sent to RoweFellowshipCoA@iit.edu. Applications are due by January 13, 2025 to be considered for this appointment, which begins August 2025.
