The School of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame is seeking applications for Assistant or Associate Professor – Tenure-Track in Environmental Systems. The position will be available starting July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will teach architectural technology courses at a variety of levels in the

curriculum. The candidate should demonstrate accomplishments in building system design, building technology development, and/or construction technology development. Evidence of achievement shall be a portfolio of built work, publication, funded research and/or patent. We embrace the concept that innovative thinkers and designers seek to understand practical and theoretical subject matter in ways that go beyond the traditional disciplinary frameworks. In addition to teach technology courses, we seek colleagues who have demonstrated scholarly, creative, and/or professional accomplishments in one or more of the following areas:

  • Building Systems Integration: Ability to integrate building technologies into design

with particular emphasis on building control systems and building performance.

  • Design and Climate Change: Ability to engage salient issues of architecture and

urbanism such as urban design, patterns of settlement, resilience, and sustainability as

they are impacted by climate disruption.

  • Social Justice: Ability to engage issues of equity, affordable accommodations,

community based design processes, and diversity through architectural and urban

strategies.

  • Building Materials and Construction: Ability to integrate new and traditional building material and method research into design and planning.

Required: Doctoral degree in a related area is preferred and/or candidates must have completed a Masters or Advanced degree in Architecture or a related field at the time of appointment; applicants not holding a doctoral degree but possessing exceptional experience and achievement, along with a Masters or Advanced degree will also be considered.

Preferred:

Candidates who can demonstrate an ability to integrate Environmental Systems and Building Technology into studio courses and studio instruction are preferable. Candidates actively engaged in professional practice are desirable.
