Based on analyses of both tangible and intangibleforces of production, this paper posits the value ofstudying supply chains in architecture and architecturaleducation in search of a more thoroughunderstanding of sustainability. The argumentconsists of three parts. First, expanding the systemboundaries of what constitutes architecture enablesa more politically engaged practice. Second, enlistingvisual representation in the delineation of spatialproblems expands the agency and relevance ofarchitecture in contemporary discourse. Third, envisioningalternative futures introduces the politics ofpossibility and leverages a uniquely architecturalmode of inquiry.
