The design area is located at the intersection of Youyi Road and Chang’an North Road in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. It is planned to be the green lung of Xi’an City. However, the current land use pattern is dominated by unit courtyards and shantytowns with a chaotic layout. The quality of living environment is terrible, complex and full of contradiction with urban development. There are fences around the scenic area, making it inconvenient for citizens, and the road system is fractured with insufficient facilities. Simultaneously, the design area has large potential and vitality. This design is based on the historical value of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, combined with the overall plan of Xi’an. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda area is built as the combination of creative culture and art industries which integrates consumption, exhibition, leisure and cultural experience together. Therefore, the balanced centripetal design strategies are adopted. The corner square attracts people from urban pedestrian network into the base, which contains a sunken main walking road with different pedestrian branches. Diversity public space and dynamic node space form the public network, which plays a crucial role in urban regeneration. Architectures are almost all folk buildings with low-rise high density construction and sloping roofs. We hope to return the space to the city and provide leisure activities for different age groups. We expect to attract the concentration of multiple crowd to drive the cultural, artistic and commercial development of design area, in order to effectively enhance urban regeneration in China.
