This paper challenges a pervading ethic of rationality in architectural education, derived in response to intense economic, social, and environmental pressures, and reinforced by an uncritical dominance of diagrammatic and performative visualization. I will argue, through projects from an advanced undergraduate drawing class, as well as work done in a graduate level immersion studio that by creating space for the production unconstrained, undirected, and unresolved images, architectural educati on can reassert the necessity of wandering speculation in the production of an energetic and inspiring world.
