Global cultural trends of transience and temporality, are translated into the design of an ultra-lightweight mobile shelter. This required the development of a structural module that could be brought to site in several backpacks. A series of modules are then composed based on an understanding of the specific site, and the experience of passage out into a suite of interior and exterior environments. The design was developed through a series of 1:1 prototypes, and structural loading tests done by our studio team in our workshop. This was necessary due to the highly experimental nature of the lightweight structure and materials used. Such an hands-on construction approach is part of an overall public, democratic “make culture”. This is incorporated with the promotion of a network of local industries and craftsmanship, as manifested in the form of agri-tech nets, which we then hand-sewed to the structure.
