The ACSA Board of Directors is pleased to announce a proposal to extend the term of the Vice President/President-Elect to two years, and to combine the position of Secretary and Treasurer. The proposal must be approved by the ACSA membership as an amendment to the Bylaws. The proposal also increases the length of the Secretary/Treasurer term to three years, from two years. The rationale for the change to the Vice President’s term is to better enable continuity and effectiveness by providing the eventual President a longer engagement with the organization before starting the position. The change adds one year to plan and facilitate the implementation of an effective leadership agenda. “Starting as Vice President/President-Elect involves a steep learning curve,” said ACSA President Marilys Nepomechie, FAIA. “Vice Presidents are charged with chairing two committees and serving on three others from their first meeting. At the same time Most of the initiatives undertaken by the board are multi-year endeavors. The additional year will help the organization be more effective in its leadership.” The board also chose to propose combining the Secretary and Treasurer positions in order to maintain the size of the 14-person board. Extending the term of service to three years would also bring the Secretary/Treasurer in line with other board members. The board agreed that with staff support the combined duties of the Secretary/Treasurer will remain manageable. ACSA will be contacting Faculty Councilors and administrators at Full-Member schools with further information about voting for the proposal. Voting will be done online according to the following schedule. Please refer any questions to your regional director or to Michael Monti, executive director.
