A Statement Regarding the Los Angeles Fires

A Statement Regarding the Los Angeles Fires

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to all of the faculty, staff, and students at our member schools impacted by the devastating fires in Los Angeles. This sudden loss and trauma extends the global crisis related to housing and displacement, and underscores the importance of the work foregrounded in the recent ACSA/AIA Intersections Conference on New Housing Paradigms. We look forward to supporting more discussion on this in our upcoming 113th ACSA Annual Meeting on Repair. The architecture community has an important role to play in prevention, recovery, and rebuilding, and we will continue educating the next generation to expand our agency and impact.

Below, we’ve curated a list of resources and organizations that are collecting funds to provide supplies and services to those affected by the LA fires. This list is not exhaustive. Before donating, please take the time to verify that the charity is both legitimate and actively providing on-the-ground assistance.

FEMA – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) helps people and communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. People affected by the fires can apply for assistance: https://www.fema.gov/

LA Fire Mutual Aid Resource Hub – Provides information on how individuals can donate, volunteer, or provide other resources for those impacted by the Los Angeles fires.

Mutual Aid LA – A network highlighting where and how people can donate needed supplies. It also acts as a forum where those impacted can list what they most need.

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank – Accepting both food contributions and volunteers at multiple locations.

Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation – The LAFD Foundation provides vital equipment and funds critical programs to help the LAFD save lives and protect communities.

California Community Foundation – Manages both short and long-term recovery for those displaced and affected by the wildfires.

The League of California Community Foundations – A coalition of California nonprofits coordinating relief efforts, including rebuilding homes and dealing with the mental health impacts of the disaster.

Additionally, we’ve collected resource recommendations from our colleagues at Architectural Record, Archinect, and AIA Los Angeles.
