The University of Idaho Architecture Department invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor based in Moscow.
Emphasis: Design + Pedagogy
The primary focus of this search is for a candidate that can demonstrate inventiveness and expertise in teaching design studio at all levels. Candidates who seek knowledge ranging from the poetic implications of building assemblies in design, the impacts of socio/historical/cultural/political factors on design, connections between theory and making, and the potential of advanced graphic communication to propel design thinking will be seen to add meaningful breadth to our studio faculty.
The successful candidate will communicate the power of effective design in their own work, be able to discuss the theoretical investments of both their work and design pedagogy and provide examples of innovative approaches to teaching; additional teaching capacities (beyond studios and seminars) are highly desirable. Candidates should be able to use written scholarship to both deepen and make explicit the connections between their pedagogy and practice, articulate a clear research agenda, and demonstrate a commitment to producing peer reviewed work.
Responsibilities:
(1) Teaching design studios, required lecture courses, and seminars at undergraduate and graduate levels;
(2) producing peer-reviewed scholarship and/or creative work, possibly critical architectural practice;
(3) performing service through program, college, and university committees as well as service beyond the university.
Required Qualifications:
• Master of Architecture or equivalent terminal degree in a related field
• Experience communicating both verbally and in writing. Teaching experience.
Desired Qualifications:
• Professional registration
• Post-professional degree
• A record of research and/or practice.
• Ability to teach required course work in support of the professional degree (M.Arch).
