Mississippi State University

The School of Architecture at Mississippi State University invites applicants for two tenure-track appointments at the Assistant Professor rank with an anticipated start date of Fall 2025. We seek candidates with experience in integrating emerging approaches to sustainable and resilient design in their research, teaching, and creative practice. The candidates are expected to incorporate innovative strategies and techniques for sustainable and resilient design in studio and lecture courses as part of the design studios and technology coursework at the undergraduate level. Areas of expertise that are sought range from structures, materials and assemblies, energy modeling, building performance simulation, innovative use of materials, and construction techniques, among others.

Design studios are the heart of the School of Architecture. While sustainable and resilient principles are taught in a range of courses, studios are the place in which faculty and students engage in deep investigations with the aim of advancing architecture. The Gulf Coast Community Design Studio, the Jackson Community Design Center, and other research centers at Mississippi State University provide opportunities for research collaboration. The School of Architecture and the College of Architecture, Art, and Design are making significant investments in advanced visualization and simulation through the establishment of a new state-of-the-art visualization and simulation lab, supporting applicants whose research agenda involves computational approaches to energy modeling, building performance simulations, geospatial visualization, building information modeling, and digital twins. The successful candidates will also play prominent roles in the planned graduate program.

Candidates with design studio teaching experience or interest are preferred. Professional licensure (or progress toward licensure) or an earned Ph.D. (or progress toward a Ph.D.) is also required. The School of Architecture encourages diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives. We invite candidates who can collaborate with our faculty who share diverse viewpoints and who can make a positive contribution to the missions of our school and college as well as the university.
