The School of Architecture and Planning at Morgan State University invites applicants for a tenured faculty position to serve as the Chairperson of the Department of Architecture and program director for the undergraduate program in Architecture and Environmental Design. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment at the level of Associate or Full Professor.

  • The successful candidate will be a visionary leader and capable of developing synergistic relationships within the department, as well as the broader communities of the school, the university, and the profession.
  • The Chair will be a strong advocate for faculty and students, ensuring all constituents of the department are afforded the opportunity to grow both personally and collectively as an academic unit.
  • The Chair will steward fiscal resources and foster new initiatives to further augment the mission of the department, school, and university.
  • The Chair will be responsible for developing and implementing best practices to ensure active admissions, recruitment, advising, and retention processes that elevate student aptitude and continued success in graduate programs and professional careers.

The successful candidate shall have a record of excellence in practice, publications, conference presentations, creative work, or other discipline-related activities. Their professional experience reputation, and scholarly accomplishments should make them a strong candidate for tenure at the level of Associate or Full Professor. The following credentials are expected from all applicants:

  • A master’s degree in architecture or allied discipline is required
  • Record of excellence in academic and professional scholarly achievements including teaching, research, and service;
  • Record of prior administrative and leadership experience, including effective interpersonal communication and team building, management, and problem-solving;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and work with various constituencies and external partners and collaborators;
  • Evidence of curriculum development;
  • At least two years of relevant academic administrative experience;
  • At least five years of relevant architecture/design practice. Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues in a collaborative environment and relate to a diverse student population.
