– Architecture and Education Israel is one of the most densely populated countries. One of the main problems is shortage of land intended for public and educational buildings The paper introduces the importance of a roundtable among educators, town planners, architects and designers. One of the main tasks is bringing education to every individual regardless to geographical distances or socio-economic situation. A special focus should be put on establishing schools as “Culture Centers for the whole community. This new approach can create a lively, active intensified “City School”. The advantages of mixed uses are economic and social. It enables an efficient land use, creates interactive centers and achieves rational resource allocation. The disadvantages lie in the human factor and bureaucracy. The idea of vertical schools arose in very dense cities, where the sites are small and the need is high. It is possible to create valuable educational environments on high floors, as long as we create suitable open spaces on different levels including roofs and consider mobility issues. It is possible to combine the two ideas and have the school in a high construction of a mixed uses project. The ideas of vertical educational buildings, mixed uses and the city school are developing in correlation with recent ideas of new pedagogic approaches; from traditional education system to “Meaningful Learning” The topics of the “City School”, “Mixed uses” “Vertical schools” and new pedagogic systems will bring us to fruitful designs of Educational facilities in the 21 century
