The recent documentary Through the RepellentFence: A Land Art Film (Dir. Sam Wainwright Douglas,2017) quotes the Land Arts of the American Westprogram director saying “the most important workthey [the participants] are going to make, is workthat is ten years out. Its how this experience, and thework they make, shifts and alters their perceptionof the world. And, their relationship to shaping theworld.” It is a provocation crossing deep and immediatetime. This paper will select a group of formerLand Arts program participants, architects, artistsand writers, to examine the impact and trajectoryof the experience on the formation of their identityand work as shapers of worlds.
